The History of Valentines Day

Welcome to Valentines Day on my blog. I thought I would start off by offering some history about the day. I know a few people that always point out that it’s a day that a Massacre happened called St. Valentine’s Day Massacre , but I love the love part. Mostly because I’m in love with love.

I looked it up a bit of information about the love side and this is what I found. At the end of the 5th century, Pope Gelasius declared February 14 St. Valentine’s Day. But It wasn’t until much later that the day became definitively associated with love. During the Middle Ages, it was believed that February 14 was the beginning of birds’ mating season, which created the idea that Valentine’s Day should be a day for romance.

Valentine greetings were popular back in the Middle Ages, although written Valentine’s didn’t begin to appear until after 1400. In addition to the United States, Valentine’s Day is celebrated in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France and Australia. By the middle of the 18th century, it was common for friends and lovers of all social classes to exchange small tokens of affection or handwritten notes, and by 1900 printed cards began to replace written letters due to improvements in printing technology. Americans probably began exchanging hand-made valentines in the early 1700s. Today, according to the Greeting Card Association, an estimated 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are sent each year, making Valentine’s Day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year. (An estimated 2.6 billion cards are sent for Christmas.) Telling the person you love that you care about them whether it’s a friend, family member, or romantic partner is a big deal and even though there’s a day like valentines day to do it, make sure you tell them whenever you get the chance ❤

This Weeks Pintrest Obsession (TWPO)

What I’ve been pinning this week

January 24th- January 30th

Going back into my Pintrest from this past week there was three things I was clearly obsessed with. Here are my top three most pinned items.

  1. Outfit Inspiration: Upon coming back to school for the second semester I told myself I was going to make a change, so I decided that started with not wearing sweat pants out of the house for class. To achieve that ambition I’ve been looking at clothes on Pintrest and if I can continue this I’ll reward myself with a new outfit head to toe. I’m also trying to use all of the clothes in my closet instead of just a few pieces over and over so I’m trying to not wear something in the same way twice.Screen Shot 2016-01-27 at 6.30.49 PMScreen Shot 2016-01-27 at 6.28.47 PMScreen Shot 2016-01-27 at 6.29.50 PM
  2. Work Out Plans: With my friends and I trying to be a bit healthier, we’ve been working out so while I was at the gym actually on the stationary bike, I was looking at work out routines for me and my roommate to try. We haven’t got to yet though.Screen Shot 2016-01-27 at 6.30.33 PMScreen Shot 2016-01-27 at 6.30.23 PMScreen Shot 2016-01-27 at 6.30.15 PM
  3. Valentines day/Anniversary Ideas: With my favorite holiday valentines day right around the corner, I was starting to look up some ideas to share with y’all here as well as things I can do for my boyfriend. Then just two weeks later it’s my anniversary so I usually plan all of my ideas at once to make it easier.Screen Shot 2016-01-27 at 6.31.43 PMScreen Shot 2016-01-27 at 6.32.00 PMScreen Shot 2016-01-27 at 6.31.19 PMScreen Shot 2016-01-27 at 6.31.34 PMScreen Shot 2016-01-27 at 6.31.28 PMScreen Shot 2016-01-27 at 6.31.53 PM

More New Meals

Again last week we tried a new recipe that I found. It really didn’t have a name so I called it Creamy Italian Chicken. I really love to marinate chicken in Italian dressing, so I thought this crock pot recipe would be great

IMG_7317

First you need:

  • One pack of Italian dressing mix
  • One can of cream of chicken soup
  • 8oz of cream cheese (that was this whole stick)

You put all three of those ingredients into the crock pot and turn it on high to melt it. I left mine sit in 30 minute intervals between stirring it. It took about and hour for all of my ingredients to melt together and become smooth. If you allow the cream cheese to soften prior it may not that as long.

IMG_7320

Once mixed fully it should look something like this

IMG_7318

Then I just used chicken tender pieces and cut them into about one inch chunks

IMG_7319

IMG_7321

After you add the chicken you can mix it all together and let sit in the Crock pot. Here I added a splash of milk and Italian dressing to make it a bit easier to mix since the cream cheese was a bit thick.

IMG_7322

While that cooked I made some basic white rice to serve with it

IMG_7323

When it was finished cooking for about 2-3 hours I served it over the rice and with a side of chilled carrots

I think the meal turned out really well. My roommate and I even had a guest over for dinner and everyone seemed to enjoy it. All three plates were clean at the end of dinner. This recipe is easily adjustable for any family. I think next time I may add some veggies to the mixture its self and maybe some more milk because it was a tad thick, but it was great. The measurements for what I used feeds about 4-5 people. We ate all of the rice I made but chicken was left over so the next day I used what was left on pasta and it was also great. In this case though you would want it to be less thick. But it made a great leftover meal too 🙂 I hope you try this out for yourself, I really recommend it, take it and make it your own with veggies and such. Happy Cooking 😀

Scrubs

Scrubs is a medical comedy tv series that aired from October 2, 2001, to March 17, 2010. The series follows the lives of employees (such as JD, Turk, Carla, Elliot, and many more) at Sacred Heart hospital and their journey from medical intern all the way up to teaching med school. Seeing as I was a young child when it first aired I did not watch it originally, but this past summer I saw it on Netflix and began to watch it after I finished Friends because I needed a new series to watch. I did not go through this one as fast as I have other series’s, but now that I am done with it I am actually really disappointed.

I finished the series last night and I am left feeling very conflicted on my opinion of the series. When the ninth season starts the setting and characters shift a bit. Instead of JD and Turk (the main characters) working side by side in the hospital, the hospital is torn down and rebuild on a Med-school campus, and they become “professors”. As soon as this season started I didn’t really like it as much the previous ones, but I gave it a chance because I had already put months of my life into this show.

Now that I have finished it, I am actually really upset about how it ended. The show honestly never really had an ending it just kind of stopped and left a lot of story lines unfinished. I really hate when shows do this, but it usually happens when a show suddenly gets taken off air unexpectedly which may have happened (I don’t know that was 6 years ago) If it did run its full course, the ending was very disappointing and i would had rather it ended after season 8 when JD left the hospital for a new job.

I guess I just have to live with the ending I got and start looking for my next Netflix series to binge watch.

What’s New!

Things may look a bit different around here on the blog. You may have noticed that it got a bit pinker, more love filled, dare I say festive. Well with Valentines day quickly approaching I become more and more excited! I LOVE VALENTINES DAY! If it were a legitimate holiday it would definitely be my favorite one. So I won’t start till Sunday with the valentines day posts but look forward to those, crafts, card making, out fit ideas for date, gifts, and just info about valentines day with possibly some valentines day stories from myself!

***Also a lot of my pictures I had got deleted somehow on my posts, so I’m sorry for that.. I don’t know what happened to them

Is It Regret?

As I look at Lock Haven outside my window,

I stare at the mountain covered in the beautiful

changing trees of fall

as vibrant as the sky at dusk.

So many shades of auburn and golden yellow

blowing across the streets.

This book about powerful

professional poets rains on my mood,

all of the stories I read are as bleak

as my eggshell colored walls.

Much like the housework I’m avoiding,

I keep finding other things to do instead of read.

I can’t help but lose myself

in thought as I sit here.

Why am I in the middle of Pennsylvania?

Why am I in a town

where the cornfields and

trees are as tall as

skyscrapers,

and there’s a church with ringing bells

around every corner?

Why am I in the mountains

where it snows so much

you feel like you’re at the North Pole?

The wind whips across your face.

It stings like a jelly fish

touching your bare skin,

and there’s nowhere to escape the cold.

Where you can wear seven layers of clothes

just to walk to class and still freeze

by the time you arrive.

I could have ended up anywhere on the globe,

like sunny California where it never snows,

or the busy streets of New York

where there are real skyscrapers,

somewhere where there are rooftop parties,

or big extravagant events like movie

premieres and celebrity meet ups to attend,

or even a beach to get away from all the stresses of life.

But alas my heart chose tiny

little Lock Haven,

where you can go to Texas

every night,

and still be back to finish your readings,

which I still have to do.

Trying New Things

Being back at school and cooking for me roommate and myself we’ve decided to try a few new recipes instead of just eating frozen chicken nuggets and pasta. Friday night we decided to try a recipe she found on Facebook.

It is called Meatball Sub Bake. To make this you need….

  • One can of ready to bake biscuits
  • A jar of spaghetti sauce
  • Meatballs (preferably frozen)
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese

It’s actually a really simple process. Here’s the link to the video we used Meatball Sub Bake

It was really good, My roommate ate it right out of the oven, and I reheated it in the microwave and it was still really tasty. It didn’t get all weird and taste bad because of reheating it. I would definitely make it again at some point.

Things my baby sister needs to know

My other mother (my mom’s best friend) recently found out that she is having her second child. Her daughter is currently 3 1/2 (the picture above was christmas when we got big sis little sis penguins) and you can tell she’s excited to become a big sissy, and I don’t blame her because it’s super exciting. I’ve been thinking about things I wish I knew when becoming a big sister for the first time. Mainly because she asked me to teach her how to be a big sissy. I plan on when it’s closer to time to create a “Big Sissy Kit” for her, and I can post that on here when I do that, but that awhile away yet. So here’s the list of things my baby sister needs to know about becoming the big sissy.

  1. Sharing things is super important. Yes you’ll have toys and things that are just yours but every toy is always better when you have someone to play with.
  2. They’ll be the first to hear your new-found wisdom as you grow and learn how life works. So be honest with them.
  3. No one can ever EVER pick on your sibling, and if they do you better do something about it. That’s a right only reserved for you!
  4. The inside jokes are endless and will live between you till the end of time (and it’s amazing)
  5. It will be practically impossible to stay angry with them for long. You will love them so much that staying mad will never work out.
  6. You gave them the rules to follow so make sure tell them before they get in trouble. The rules are only there because of something you did.
  7. You will always have someone who looks up to you, even if they get taller than you haha. You will always be the older sibling, therefore the role model in their life for quite sometime.
  8. No friendship will ever be stronger than this sibling bond, and don’t ever take that for granted.
  9. You are who you are because of them. You are no longer an only child and being an oldest child will change you forever. You will develop a leadership, mothering, controlling instinct as you grow because of helping out and eventually being put in charge of them. So in 20 years from now when your telling some other little girl what to expect when becoming a big sissy, know you only know those facts because of your younger siblings.
  10. The love you will have for them will be indescribable and no amount of words I can offer will ever prepare you for that.

I love all of my little sisters with all of my heart, biological or not12346531_938156729571902_5270474633222568354_nand I thank God every day for making me a big sister. It’s the Best!

This Weeks Pintrest Obsession (TWPO)

I know I just said yesterday that I wasn’t going to commit to a type of blog, but I thought of this idea and I thought it would make a good series on my blog.

What I’ve been pinning this week

January 17th-23rd

Going back into my Pintrest from this past week there was three things I was clearly obsessed with. Here are my top three most pinned items.

  1. Ankle Booties: I do not own ankle booties. I live in boots, I have two pairs of knee highs, two pairs of combat type boots, rain boots, ugg type slipper boots, and cowboy boots. I have been lusting over ankle booties since they recently became a trend within the last year. So my pintrest is the story of me trying to find the perfect pair.Screen Shot 2016-01-20 at 12.48.37 AMScreen Shot 2016-01-20 at 12.54.46 AMScreen Shot 2016-01-20 at 12.54.58 AM
  2. Crock pot Meals: With me coming back to school this week I have to get used to feeding myself again, and crock pot meals are easy to throw together and forget about while my roommate and I go to class or the gym or anywhere else, and the still have a nice meal that night. So I was looking up easy cook recipes for us to try out this semester.                                                                                     Screen Shot 2016-01-20 at 12.50.06 AMScreen Shot 2016-01-20 at 12.50.20 AMScreen Shot 2016-01-20 at 12.49.53 AM
  3. Dresses: Finally my most pinned thing this week was dressed. But not just like everyday dresses, I was looking for ideas of dresses to wear to the multiple weddings I will be attending in 2016. Plus I turn 21 and if I’m going to go out at the beach like my mom is planning for us to do, I wanna look cute as heck too! So while I was bored this week I began to day dream about all of the beautiful dresses and trying to decide which one would look best with my nude heels I bought.                                  Screen Shot 2016-01-20 at 12.49.25 AMScreen Shot 2016-01-20 at 12.49.37 AMScreen Shot 2016-01-20 at 1.06.49 AMScreen Shot 2016-01-20 at 1.07.04 AMScreen Shot 2016-01-20 at 12.49.03 AMScreen Shot 2016-01-20 at 12.48.51 AM

Update on the blog..

So as I’ve been writing I still haven’t decided what my main purpose is with the blog. It’s more just kind of somewhere I can express what I’m feeling and thinking, and I hope everyone’s liking that. It’s kind of a hodgepodge of different types of post which I hope is appealing to different types of viewers…

For anyone who reads my blog no matter what it is thank you for bearing with my crazy thought process haha. I love seeing people actually visiting my blog. So thank you again.

I really like what I’m doing with this which is just writing what I feel, and if I’m absolutely not feeling anything I just don’t post ( which I’ve had a few of those days ) I don’t wanna define this as a beauty blog, or a family blog, or even a journal blog. I just want to be me, expressing my 20’s through digital posting, and if no one as any problems, I’m just gonna keep trucking!

I will admit now that school has started there may not be a post everyday, but I’m certainly going to try! If your only interested in certain kinds of posts I have been categorizing them so you can go into that category if you would like as well. 😀

Have a good weekend everyone!

xo,

Jenah
